Norrin Radd, known as the Silver Surfer, first appeared in Fantastic Four #48 (March 1966).
He is from the planet Zenn-La, a utopian world where the inhabitants had long abandoned ambition and struggle, living lives of leisure. To save his planet from the world-devouring Galactus, Norrin Radd offered himself as Galactus's herald.
Galactus imbued him with the Power Cosmic, transforming him into the Silver Surfer, a being of immense power. The Surfer was tasked with finding planets for Galactus to consume.
Eventually, the Surfer was redeemed by the Fantastic Four when they convinced him of the evil of serving Galactus. The Surfer then turned against his former master.
